A fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage. Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is measured by blood test as part of the Nutritional panel in the HodieLabs Health Blueprint.
Vitamin E is lipid-soluble and transported in LDL/HDL, elevated lipids falsely elevate vitamin E. Lipid-adjusted vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol/total cholesterol ratio) is more accurate.
Associated risks when out of range: Deficiency causes peripheral neuropathy, ataxia, and impaired immune function, High-dose supplementation (>400 IU/day) may paradoxically increase all-cause mortality.
The evidence base behind how the HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library interprets Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), from randomised trials, prospective cohorts and genetic (Mendelian randomisation) studies. Full citations in the reference list below.
The HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library interprets Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) against published clinical authority standards, never arbitrary "optimal" ranges. Measured in µmol/L:
Recommended testing frequency: Annual, as part of a comprehensive panel. Single markers are always interpreted in context.
Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is measured in every Health Blueprint at our Melbourne Preventative Health & Longevity Clinic, interpreted by a doctor against the guideline-cited ranges above and tracked over time through your HodieLabs membership.

A fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage.
The HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library optimal range is 12–42 µmol/L, based on RCPA Australian pathology reference intervals; alpha-tocopherol 12–42 µmol/L normal. >60 µmol/L potential toxicity.
Annual testing is recommended for most adults as part of a comprehensive preventative panel; more often if a result is being actively managed.
Evidence-supported levers include: food sources (nuts, seeds, vegetable oils) are preferred over supplements, interpret alongside lipid levels. Vitamin e is transported in lipoproteins. Interpretation and an action plan should always involve your doctor.
Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is measured in the HodieLabs Health Blueprint at our Melbourne Preventative Health and Longevity Clinic at 85 Spring Street, with doctor-led interpretation against evidence-based reference ranges.
