Ratio of triglycerides to HDL; a practical proxy for insulin resistance. TG/HDL ratio is measured by blood test as part of the Metabolic panel in the HodieLabs Health Blueprint.
TG/HDL ratio is derived, no additional blood draw needed. Ratio <1.0 (mmol/L) indicates likely pattern A (large buoyant) LDL; >1.5 indicates pattern B (small dense).
Associated risks when out of range: Practical proxy for insulin resistance and small dense LDL particles, TG/HDL > 1.5 (mmol/L) strongly predicts metabolic syndrome. Correlates with cardiovascular risk even when LDL-C is normal.
The evidence base behind how the HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library interprets TG/HDL ratio, from randomised trials, prospective cohorts and genetic (Mendelian randomisation) studies. Full citations in the reference list below.
The HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library interprets TG/HDL ratio against published clinical authority standards, never arbitrary "optimal" ranges. Measured in ratio:
Recommended testing frequency: Annual, as part of a comprehensive panel. Single markers are always interpreted in context.
TG/HDL ratio is measured in every Health Blueprint at our Melbourne Preventative Health & Longevity Clinic, interpreted by a doctor against the guideline-cited ranges above and tracked over time through your HodieLabs membership.

Ratio of triglycerides to HDL; a practical proxy for insulin resistance.
The HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library optimal range is <1.0 ratio, based on ATP III metabolic syndrome criteria; TG/HDL ratio <1.0 (mmol/L units) associated with favourable lipid and insulin sensitivity profile.
Annual testing is recommended for most adults as part of a comprehensive preventative panel; more often if a result is being actively managed.
Evidence-supported levers include: reduce refined carbohydrates and added sugars. Primary driver of elevated tg, increase omega-3 intake and aerobic exercise. Interpretation and an action plan should always involve your doctor.
