Specific Gravity (urine): what your result means.

Frequently asked questions

A measure of urine concentration reflecting the kidney's ability to concentrate or dilute urine. Useful for assessing hydration status and interpreting other urine results.

The HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library optimal range is 1.005–1.030 ratio, based on RCPA Australian pathology reference intervals; urine specific gravity 1.005–1.030 normal. <1.005 may indicate overhydration or impaired concentrating ability; >1.030 may indicate dehydration.

Annual testing is recommended for most adults as part of a comprehensive preventative panel; more often if a result is being actively managed.

Management depends on the underlying cause. Interpretation and an action plan should always involve your doctor.

Specific Gravity (urine) is measured in the HodieLabs Health Blueprint at our Melbourne Preventative Health and Longevity Clinic at 85 Spring Street, with doctor-led interpretation against evidence-based reference ranges.
