Frequently asked questions

It is a blood test that looks for signals shed by tumours to detect a range of cancers, many of which have no routine screening. It suggests where a signal may be coming from to guide follow-up.

No. It complements standard screening such as bowel, breast, cervical, prostate and skin checks, and does not replace them.

No. A "no signal detected" result is reassuring but cannot rule out cancer, so routine screening should continue.

Not yet. It has been shown to be feasible and can detect cancers, but large trials assessing whether it reduces mortality are still ongoing.

MCED testing is available as an add-on with doctor counselling at our Melbourne Preventative Health and Longevity Clinic.
