Frequently asked questions

Glycated haemoglobin in IFCC standardised units (mmol/mol). Reflects average blood glucose control over the preceding 8–12 weeks.

The HodieLabs Evidence-Based Clinical Library optimal range is <39 mmol/mol, based on ADA 2024 Standards of Care in Diabetes (IFCC standardisation); <39 mmol/mol normal, 39–47 prediabetes, >=48 diabetes. IFCC and NGSP (%) units are mathematically interconvertible: IFCC = (NGSP - 2.15) x 10.929.

6-monthly if borderline, annually if in reference range testing is recommended for most adults as part of a comprehensive preventative panel; more often if a result is being actively managed.

Evidence-supported levers include: reduce refined carbohydrates, increase physical activity, weight management, consider metformin if persistent prediabetes. Interpretation and an action plan should always involve your doctor.

HbA1c (IFCC) is measured in the HodieLabs Health Blueprint at our Melbourne Preventative Health and Longevity Clinic at 85 Spring Street, with doctor-led interpretation against evidence-based reference ranges.
